Spider-Man Homecoming opened this weekend...to the tune of about $116 Million - Deadline is reporting that the latest installment of the friendly neighborhood wall crawler to hit the big screen is the second largest opening for Sony in the franchise (behind 2007’s Spider-man 3) and the 7th largest opening for Marvel Studios. If you haven’t seen the film yet...seriously what are you doing? You should go watch it right now, and then take a listen to our own review. If you have seen it, sound off below!
Panels for San Diego Comic Con’s Hall H have been announced - Posted to the SDCC website, Marvel Studios and Warner Brothers have big plans for the annual geek mega event, no doubt unveiling plans, announcements, and trailers for the respective future of the Marvel and DC cinematic universes. If you’ve been wondering when Robert Downey Jr might hang up the Iron Man helmet for good...you might have a better idea now. - Speaking at length to an Australian News source, the actor who helped kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe nearly 10 years ago, says that he’ll bow out before things get too awkward. “Everyone says to me it's like a glove that fits so well," RDJ said. "I have to start over every time but I am starting over with a pretty solid base. I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven (MCU movies) I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it's embarrassing."
Mile High Comics, one of the largest comic retailers in the country, won’t be attending SDCC for the first time in 44 years. - Owner Chuck Rozanski has been exhibiting at the convention since 1973, when it was still known as San Diego's West Coast Comic Convention. He cited poor foot traffic and poor management by CCI personnel as his reason for not attending the annual convention in San Diego this year. Rozanski, was featured heavily in the documentary “Comic Con: Episode IV a Fan’s Hope” by film maker Morgan Spurlock, where he cited some of the difficulties in the changing demographics of SDCC’s attendees for traditional retailers like himself.
DC to Publish Batman: White Knight with the Joker as the Hero - After weeks of Teasing from his social media account, details of writer and artist Sean Gordon Murphy (Punk Rock Jesus, & Chrononauts) newest project has been revealed, turning the classic Batman / Joker relationship on it’;s head but making the Joker the hero Gotham really needs against the criminal acts of the Bat Costumed Bruce Wayne. Batman: White Knight arrives is slated to hit shelves Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017.
Lastly, Geek Pull was saddened to hear the news this past week of the passing of Joan Lee, wife of Comic and Geek Legend Stan Lee. Mrs. Lee passed away on July 6th, after suffering from a stroke earlier in the week. A number of members of the comic book community have sounded off about the loss of Mrs Lee, certainly not least among them Marvel Entertainment CCO Joe Quesada.
